Payard’s Patisserie

Las Vegas

Collaboration with David Rockwell Design to engineer and fabricate the structural facade for Payard’s Patisserie at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas in 2007. We guided the designer from the outset to material choices that would stay true to the design intent, but also meet the very strict fire codes in Clark County. In order to achieve an FRP material that met an ASTM E-84 fire rating, we determined that if we added ATH, or aluminum tri-hydrate to the resin, the material would self-extinguish when heated due to the fact that it would give off water vapor. We certified the results and proceeded with fabrication. There is no internal support structure, it’s all exoskeletal, with embedded electrical conduit and steel for mounting to floor and attachment to the ceiling.
